Our client is a diversified organisation within the commodity trading sector, with multiple entities covering trading, finance, plant and machinery, and general operations. They operate from a vibrant head office in De Waterkant and maintain a young, dynamic and collaborative team culture.

Location & Salary

Location: De Waterkant, Cape Town

Salary: – R, depending on experience

Hybrid / In‑office: Primarily in-office, Monday to Friday, with the possibility of one remote day per week depending on performance, experience and operational needs.

About the Role

The Group Accountant will take responsibility for general day‑to‑day accounting functions across several entities, supporting compliance requirements, reconciliations, disclosures, fixed asset management and statutory submissions. The role will also include mentoring junior team members and ensuring high standards of accuracy and organisation within the finance function.

Start date: A February start is ideal; however, an earlier start date would be welcomed where possible.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform day‑to‑day accounting functions across multiple group entities
• Manage compliance requirements and prepare statutory submissions
• Handle VAT applications, calculations and reconciliations
• Maintain fixed asset registers
• Support disclosures and reporting requirements
• Assist with general reconciliations and financial controls
• Provide support and guidance to junior finance staff
• Ensure accuracy, timeliness and adherence to deadlines

Desired Experience & Qualification

• SAIPA‑registered Professional Accountant
• Post‑articles experience preferred
• Experience with SARS statutory submissions
• Solid VAT knowledge, including applications and reconciliations
• Understanding of statutory obligations including CIPC and Department of Labour submissions
• Ideally based near Cape Town CBD for ease of commute
• Experience with Google Workspace and Xero is advantageous
• Strong organisational, time management and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within a team
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Package & Remuneration

Salary range: – R, depending on experience

• Compulsory Group Scheme: 2% of CTC towards a risk policy and pension fund
• Employee pension fund contribution options: 3%, 8% or 13%
• Predominantly in‑office role with the possibility of one remote day per week, depending on performance and experience
