Job summary

A healthcare organization in Gauteng is looking for a Financial Manager to oversee grant compliance and prepare financial reports. The ideal candidate should hold a BCom in Accounting, have a minimum of 3 years of financial reporting experience in a healthcare or donor-funded environment, and possess excellent communication skills. This role requires adherence to financial policies and effective self-management. Employment type is contract.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in a donor funded organization / NGO will be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) will be required.

Background

Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (WHC) is a wholly‑owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences

WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives

In addition WHC offers a range of products and services to Academics

Main purpose of the job

To manage the financial aspects of grants ensuring compliance with funding regulations, preparing accurate financial reports and supporting program teams throughout the grant lifecycle.

Key performance areas
  • Ensure adherence to the Financial Policies and Procedures and Donor Rules and Regulations
  • Effective review and timeously approval of purchase orders on the WHC portal ensuring the P2P complies with the financial policies of WHC and Donor Rules and Regulations
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure alignment with grant terms and conditions and organizational policies and procedures
  • Effective review and approval of general ledger entries and journal entries
  • Budget preparation and management
  • Preparation of journals with the necessary supporting documents for capturing
  • Review subawardees financial reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare the journal to capture the subawardees costs into the organizations GL
  • Ensure timely submission of financial documentation from subawardees
  • Preparation of audit samples to support internal and external audits
Provide financial advice to divisions and sites

Prepare and submit timely accurate comprehensive financial reports to funders and divisions

Liaison with all relevant stakeholders

Effective compliance with donor requirements

Effective self‑management

Adhoc duties include requesting invoices to external and internal stakeholders including cost recovery invoices with the necessary supporting documentation

Required minimum education and training

BCom Accounting or equivalent

Required minimum work experience

Minimum of 3 years financial reporting experience in a healthcare or donor funded environment

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
  • Experience working in a donor funded organization / NGO will be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office especially Excel and accounting package is desirable
  • Must have a dynamic and compatible personality able to deal with clients donors and staff at all levels
  • Must be self‑motivated able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • The environment may at times be busy and need excellent management skills and attention to details
  • May be required to work overtime and to travel to various sites
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) will be required
