Job summary

NOA Trading in South Africa is launching a twelve-month Graduate Energy Analyst programme. Graduates rotate across Trading Operations, Portfolio Management, Settlements and Commercial, applying analytical skills to deliver insights and drive decision-making in a busy energy trading environment.

You will support energy forecasting, customer reporting and risk assessment while learning to optimise energy solutions for customers and contribute to the company’s decarbonisation goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Business Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or another quantitative discipline.
• Strong academic record with aptitude for analytical and quantitative work.

Responsibilities

• Work with energy datasets from customers and generators using standard approaches (load factors, TOU analysis).
• Apply Eskom tariff frameworks to calculate customer costs and potential savings.
• Support determination of optimum energy solutions, optimizing for financial and non-financial metrics.
• Provide analytical support across multiple workstreams including energy forecasting, customer reporting and risk assessment.
• Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements and provide analytics.

About the role

NOA Trading is seeking Graduate Energy Analysts for our 12-month graduate programme - a rare opportunity to build a career at the forefront of South Africa's renewable energy transition. Graduates rotate across teams within NOA Trading - Trading Operations, Portfolio Management, Settlements and Commercial - spanning customer-facing/commercial and more technical/analytical roles. Wherever you land, you'll put your analytical skills to work in a high-growth, fast-paced environment, helping South African businesses access affordable, reliable clean energy while meeting their decarbonisation goals.

Key accountabilities:

• Work with large energy datasets - from customers & generators - using standard technical approaches such as load factors and time-of-use (TOU) analysis.

• Apply Eskom tariff frameworks, including Energy & Capacity charges, to calculate customer costs and potential savings.

• Support the determination of optimum energy solutions for customers, optimising for financial metrics (such as operating profit and NPV) & non-financial metrics (such as renewable energy penetration).

• Provide analytical support across multiple workstreams, including energy forecasting, customer reporting and risk assessment, ensuring your team has the fact base needed to make decisions and engage with customers.

• Engage with customers and internal stakeholders to understand requirements & provide analytical support.

• Support the settlement, contracting & commercial processes that keep NOA's trading operations running smoothly.

• Help improve the standard tools & models used across the business, including Excel-based models & Python/SQL frameworks.

• Ensure data accuracy & consistency, supporting compliance with internal standards & customer obligations.

• Participate in product & process innovation to help scale NOA's energy trading platform.

Role requirements:

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Business Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or another quantitative discipline.

• A strong academic record, with a demonstrated aptitude for analytical and quantitative work.

Experience:

• No formal work experience is required - this is a graduate-entry role.

• Relevant vacation work, internships, academic projects or extracurricular activities involving data analysis, financial modelling or quantitative problem-solving are advantageous.
