About the Role

Our client is looking for a qualified Geotechnical Engineer to join their established mining operations in Rustenburg . This role is essential for ensuring the stability and safety of underground mining infrastructure. You will be responsible for assessing rock mass conditions, designing ground support systems, and monitoring geotechnical performance to mitigate risks. This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in a critical area of mining engineering, working on complex projects within one of South Africa's key mining hubs. You will collaborate with mine planning and rock mechanics teams to optimize mining layouts and ensure safe operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations and rock mass characterization for underground excavations.
• Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems , including bolts, mesh, and shotcrete.
• Monitor geotechnical performance using instrumentation and field observations.
• Analyze stability of mine openings, including stopes, tunnels, and shafts.
• Develop and implement geotechnical risk management strategies.
• Provide technical guidance and support to mining operations personnel on geotechnical matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in underground geotechnical engineering .
• Strong knowledge of rock mechanics principles and empirical/numerical modeling techniques.
• Familiarity with common mining methods and associated geotechnical challenges.
• Experience with geotechnical data management and analysis software.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills.
