Placements24 seeks a Geotechnical Engineer for Mossel Bay to lead field investigations, soil/rock analyses, and slope stability assessments. The role includes designing recommendations for foundations and earthworks, and preparing detailed reports for high-profile projects along the Western Cape coast.

You’ll use GeoStudio/Plaxis, perform lab tests, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. A strong report-writing ability and willingness to travel are essential.

Competenze

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering is required.
• Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum 6 years of geotechnical engineering experience with field investigations and analysis.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, Plaxis, or similar tools.
• Experience with field investigation techniques and laboratory testing procedures.
• Strong report writing and technical communication skills.

About the Role

Our client, a leading consultancy firm within the mining and infrastructure sectors, is seeking a qualified Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Mossel Bay, Western Cape . This role focuses on conducting thorough geotechnical investigations for a variety of projects, including mine stability assessments, foundation design for large structures, and slope stability analyses. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing field investigations, analyzing soil and rock mechanics data, and providing expert engineering recommendations. Key Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and supervise field investigations including boreholes, trial pits, CPTs, and geophysical surveys.
• Perform laboratory testing of soil and rock samples and interpret the results.
• Conduct detailed analysis of geotechnical data to assess soil and rock properties, groundwater conditions, and seismic hazards.
• Perform stability analyses for slopes, open pits, tunnels, and foundations.
• Develop geotechnical design recommendations for structures, excavations, and earthworks.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical investigation reports, including interpretations and recommendations.
• Liaise with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to ensure project requirements are met.
• Ensure compliance with relevant geotechnical codes, standards, and best practices.
• Provide technical support during the construction phase, addressing any unforeseen geotechnical issues.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of site‑specific safety procedures for field investigations.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering.
• A Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a strong emphasis on site investigations and analysis.
• Proven experience in analyzing soil and rock mechanics, slope stability, and foundation design.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, Plaxis, or similar analysis tools.
• Experience with field investigation techniques and laboratory testing procedures.
• Strong report writing and technical communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to travel to project sites within the region as required.
• Knowledge of local geological conditions in the Western Cape is advantageous.
• Professional registration (e.g., ECSA) is highly desirable.
