Placements24 seeks a meticulous Geological Survey Technician for field-based work in Bloemfontein, Free State. You will assist senior geologists, collect samples, log boreholes, and operate GPS and survey equipment while contributing to data management and reporting.

The ideal candidate holds a National Diploma or Bachelor's in Geology or Earth Science, has fieldwork experience, and is willing to travel within the Free State. A valid driver’s license and strong attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• A National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, or related field.
• Previous experience in geological fieldwork or as a survey technician is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in using geological survey equipment and GPS technology.
• Basic understanding of geological formations, rock types, and mineral identification.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and challenging terrains.
• Good physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within the Free State province.
• Commitment to safety standards and environmental responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior geologists in conducting geological field surveys, including mapping, sample collection, and borehole logging.
• Operate and maintain geological survey equipment, such as GPS devices, seismographs, magnetometers, and core drills.
• Collect soil, rock, water, and other geological samples according to established protocols.
• Perform basic field tests and measurements, documenting findings accurately.
• Assist in preparing detailed field reports, maps, and databases of geological information.
• Ensure adherence to all safety regulations and environmental protocols during field operations.
• Transport equipment and personnel to and from field sites as required.
• Conduct literature reviews and data compilation for preliminary geological assessments.
• Maintain inventory of field supplies and equipment, reporting any maintenance needs.
• Support laboratory analysis of collected samples as needed.
