About the role

Finding better ways™ to provide the materials the world needs.

This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic, practical and motivated geochemist, or an experienced project geologist, seeking to grow and develop geochemistry skills while working with an international, multi‑commodity exploration team.

Reporting to the Geochemistry Manager – Africa‑Eurasia and as part of the regional generative and technical support team for AER, your responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical support and ensuring best practice through geochemical support and advice during project planning, execution, and data review.
  • Supporting exploration programs with field and drill sampling methods, design, review of analytical techniques, implementing quality assurance programs, providing oversight of quality control data, and engaging with laboratories to ensure high‑quality data in a timely manner.
  • Collaborating with project team members to interpret and integrate geochemical and geological data to identify drill targets or advance geological understanding.
  • Collaborating with technical specialists to improve the AER exploration portfolio through interpreting 2D and 3D datasets and applying these to generate new targets, identify extensions to known mineralisation, and improve testing of existing targets.
  • Collaborating with other Generative Team geoscientists to provide integrated interpretations with recommendations on new opportunities.
  • Proactively engaging with geoscientists, data managers, and management to identify opportunities for more effective delivery of geochemical results and better integration of diverse datasets.
  • Developing technical capability of our geoscientists, embedding both RTX and industry best practice, through sharing knowledge, building skills, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Keeping track of industry developments and identifying opportunities to implement value‑adding techniques with the ability to impact discovery.
What you'll bring

Bachelor's degree in Geoscience or related discipline.

5 years' experience in mineral exploration, surface sampling, core logging, analytical methods, QA / QC monitoring, integrated interpretations, drilling techniques, and understanding of exploration program design and implementation.

Application of geochemistry through postgraduate qualifications and / or industry experience, or a keen desire to develop geochemical experience further.

Working exposure to common exploration software including ioGAS, Acquire / MX Deposit, ArcGIS, and Leapfrog.

Proven project experience, strong adaptability, accountability, and problem‑solving skills.

High proficiency in English (verbal and written) required; other languages (e.g. French, Portuguese, Russian) beneficial.

Ability to present to teams, peers and superiors with confidence and credibility and produce high‑quality reports and presentations with clear, concise recommendations.

Ability to participate in field / site visits.

Commitment to safety, sustainability, and Rio Tinto's core values of care, courage, and curiosity.
