Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and servicing of diesel and petrol generators.
  • Diagnose faults and conduct repairs on mechanical and electrical components.
  • Install and commission new generator units and accessories.
  • Conduct performance tests and ensure output meets specifications.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inventory logs, and client reports.
  • Provide technical advice and support to clients regarding generator usage.
  • Order and manage parts and supplies for maintenance and repairs.

Our client, a leader in turnkey electrical and renewable energy solutions, is seeking a Generator Technician to join their team based in Durban.

Salary: R – per month (plus Pension & Provident Fund)

Job Purpose: To install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair generator systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability across client sites or facilities.

The technician will uphold safety standards, provide technical support, and contribute to continuous improvement in power generation services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and servicing of diesel and petrol generators
  • Diagnose faults and conduct repairs on mechanical and electrical components
  • Install and commission new generator units and accessories
  • Conduct performance tests and ensure output meets specifications
  • Maintain accurate service records, inventory logs, and client reports
  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory compliance at all times
  • Provide technical advice and support to clients regarding generator usage
  • Stay updated with industry developments and integrate new technologies
  • Order and manage parts and supplies for maintenance and repairs
Qualifications & Experience
  • Matric or equivalent
  • Trade Test Certificate (Electrical or Mechanical)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in generator maintenance and repair
  • Valid driver's license
Preferred
  • Certification in generator systems (e.g., EGSA, ASE)
  • Experience with both single-phase and three-phase systems
  • Familiarity with ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) and control panels
