Job description
Key Responsibilities:
  • Safely handle and move healthcare risk waste containers, boxes, and bags throughout the plant.
  • Load and offload waste from collection vehicles and transfer it to the designated treatment area.
  • Assist in the operation of autoclaves, shredders, or other waste treatment machinery.
  • Sort, weigh, and label waste according to type and treatment requirement.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic work area, including waste processing zones, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Adhere strictly to company protocols for infection control, environmental protection, and health & safety compliance.
  • Ensure correct use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times.
  • Report any unsafe conditions, equipment faults, or incidents immediately to the supervisor.
  • Support the plant’s recycling and recovery initiatives by segregating waste and minimising landfill disposal.
  • Participate in safety drills, training, and toolbox talks.
  • Assist during the plant’s waste sterilisation, shredding, and destruction processes as required.
  • Record daily waste movements and assist with basic administrative tasks when needed.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Grade 10 / NQF Level 2 (Grade 12 advantageous).
  • Previous experience in waste management, manufacturing, or environmental services will be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with handling healthcare risk waste or hazardous materials preferred.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour safely.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work in compliance with health, safety, and environmental guidelines.
  • Willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
