ABOUT THE ROLE
The General Manager will lead the full operational, financial, and strategic management function of the business. This includes shaping and executing strategy, driving profitability and cash-flow targets, strengthening operational processes, overseeing accurate monthly reporting, and ensuring the business remains efficient, compliant, and customer-centric.
You will also play a key role in people leadership—working with the broader management team on organisational design, talent development, and ensuring teams are supported and performing at their best.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies
- Identify new opportunities and guide the business in realising them
- Ensure alignment between operational goals and overall strategic direction
Financial Management
- Drive profitability, cash flow, and budgeting processes
- Assess risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures
- Oversee monthly reporting on profitability, debtors, and key operational costs
Operational Management
- Oversee processes, policies, and procedures across all operations
- Ensure consistent quality, compliance, and efficiency
People Leadership
- Oversee organisational structures, role allocation, succession planning, and talent development
- Support and guide teams through strong communication and performance management
Client & Partner Management
- Build and nurture strategic relationships with customers, suppliers, and external partners
- Champion service excellence to ensure strong client satisfaction
Requirements
- A relevant degree in Business Management, Logistics, Commerce, or a related field
- An MBA will be an advantage
- At least 15 years of industry experience
- 10+ years in a senior leadership role within logistics, transport, or a similar operational environment
- Proven track record of achieving profitability targets
- Strong strategic planning and implementation skills
- Excellent decision-making ability
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to build lasting customer relationships and deliver exceptional service
- Solid analytical ability and comfort working with financial information
- A proactive, opportunity-driven mindset
- Confident leadership style with the ability to solve problems creatively
