Early Shift : 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (depending on completion of responsibilities)

Late Shift

Until store close (8:00 PM for customers; approx. 8:30 PM for management & security)

Weekends

Alternating weekends as part of a two-team rotation schedule

Reporting Line

Owner and Directors (primarily Evian and Barry, with collaboration across Oscar and others)

About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic, responsible, and hands‑on General Manager to oversee the daily operations of both the instore retail and liqueur divisions for a well‑known consumer retail brand in SA

This role requires a mature, teachable leader who enjoys working with people, values customer service, and is willing to be hands‑on in a busy grocery retail environment. Candidates with experience in well‑known retail brands (SPAR, Checkers, Pick n Pay, or other grocery retail operations) will be highly advantageous.

The General Manager will play a key leadership role in maintaining operational excellence, driving sales performance, ensuring customer satisfaction, and supporting their team while aligning with company values.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage the daily operations
  • Ensure high standards of customer service and satisfaction across all departments.
  • Lead, motivate, and mentor department managers and staff, fostering teamwork and accountability.
  • Manage staff scheduling, delegation, and performance to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Oversee stock receiving, returns, and supplier relationships.
  • Monitor store performance, sales, and profitability, implementing strategies to improve results.
  • Ensure compliance with operational policies, health and safety regulations, and company standards.
  • Handle operational issues efficiently and ensure smooth opening and closing of the store.
  • Participate in shift rotations, including early, late, and weekend shifts.
  • Work efficiently, diligently, and under pressure, demonstrating flexibility and commitment.
  • Maintain a visible presence on the shop floor and support staff as required.
Minimum Requirements
  • Matric (Grade 12) essential.
  • Experience in grocery retail management — SPAR highly advantageous; Checkers, Pick n Pay, or similar grocery retail also acceptable.
  • Proven experience with operational duties, stock receiving, and returns processes.
  • Strong leadership skills — able to lead, motivate, and be led when required.
  • Excellent customer service orientation with patience and professionalism.
  • Teachable attitude, willingness to learn, and strong attention to detail.
  • Basic PC literacy and computer skills.
  • Physically mobile and capable of managing a demanding retail environment.
  • Own reliable transport.
  • Willingness to work shifts (early and late), alternating weekends, and double shifts as required.
  • Must not be a “clock watcher”; flexibility is key.
  • Clear criminal record.

Additional Notes
