Job summary

Macsteel Service Centres SA (Pty) Ltd in Brakpan is seeking a General Assistant in the Paint Department to provide hands-on support to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient painting operations. You will assist machine operators, prepare materials, and maintain cleanliness in the production area.

The role requires basic safety knowledge, the ability to read and communicate in English, and flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and overtime.

Qualifications

• Minimum NQF Level 4-5 or Grade 12+; higher certificate is essential.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Forklift licence is advantageous.
• Experience in a manufacturing or production environment advantageous.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends and overtime when required.
• Basic understanding of workplace safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform general duties to support smooth running of the paint department.
• Maintain cleanliness and order, following housekeeping standards.
• Carry out routine safety inspections and report unsafe acts and conditions.
• Support setup and operation of equipment.
• Ensure safe handling and storage of hazardous materials.
• Monitor quality and report non-conformances promptly.
• Stack products per layout plan and move containers as needed.
• Record production, downtime and wastage; assist other departments.

• Moves full / empty containers to required locations as per instruction.
• Record production, downtime and wastage.
• Reporting of any faults, defects, or equipment issues as well as maintenance requirements in designated area.
• Assisting other departments when needed.
• Understanding and conformance to the company policies and procedures.
