Job summary

A leading retail company in Gauteng is looking for a General Assistant to ensure excellent customer service and maintain merchandising standards. The candidate will handle product queries, assist customers, and ensure a safe and clean environment in the store. Responsibilities
  • Ensure comprehensive customer service in the store.
  • Merchandise stock, label shelf prices, and maintain housekeeping within the designated area of responsibility.
  • Assist customers with product queries, resolve complaints, and provide product guidance.
  • Maintain merchandising standards: safely merchandise bulk stock area, keep the area fully merchandised according to store layout and planograms.
  • Ensure the area is free of obstacles, safely merchandised immediately after stock receipt, and allows customers to enter and leave aisles without risk of injury or irritation.
  • Complete checklists as required for duty with canteen and toilet/showers schedule.
  • Comply with OHSA safety requirements, including use of safety gear and ensuring customer and staff safety.
  • Report any discrepancies or damaged stock to the Store Manager.
  • Manage stock loss and report damaged stock within the area of responsibility.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Grade 10 or NQF 3 with 1 (one) year work‑related experience; or Grade 12 without related work experience.
  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language.
  • \l i>Valid South African ID or work permit.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately.
  • Must be willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
  • Must be able to work under pressure.
