Job summary

A leading metal manufacturing company in Cape Town is seeking a Furnace Supervisor to oversee the operation and management of the furnace. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a production environment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team. This role requires a strong commitment to quality standards and health & safety compliance, as well as the physical fitness to manage demanding working conditions.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years’ experience as a Supervisor in a production or mechanical environment.
• Must be computer literate with Microsoft Office.
• Must have basic knowledge of Health & Safety Rules.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the charging and housekeeping of the furnace.
• Monitor and assist with scrap blending to achieve desired specifications.
• Manage quality standards in accordance with set targets and guidelines.

Responsibilities

• In-depth and general operation of furnace
• Constant monitoring of furnace parameters
• Burner assembly/cleaning and fine-tuning burner combustion
• Oversee the charging as well as housekeeping of the furnace
• Monitor scrap quality and assist with scrap blending to achieve desired spec
• Record production data as required by our quality management system
• Assist the line manager with ad hoc duties
• Management of the Furnace equipment and operational procedures
• Manage quality standards in accordance with set targets and guidelines
• Manage risk by identifying potential failures and offering solutions to remedy risk
• Team supervision to ensure smooth operation of the shift
• Manage consumables and spares to ensure that production runs smoothly
• Compile shift report including general incidents and delays
• Investigate incidents and communicate findings possible solutions timeously
• Implementation and monitoring of Occupation Health and Safety compliance

Qualifications

• Matric (Maths compulsory)
• Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office)
• Excellent Communication skills. (verbal, written and presentation)
• In depth knowledge and experience in operating a furnace
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience as a Supervisor in a production or mechanical environment;
• Ability to work in and lead a team
• Ability to work independently
• Willingness to work overtime and SHIFTS
• Ability to work under challenging conditions
• Must have basic knowledge of Health & Safety Rules
• In good health, physically fit
