Location: Cape Town, South Africa

Contract Type: Full-time, temporary

Schedule: Flexible; full-time with occasional evenings and weekends as required

Start Date: 10 December 2024 (10/12)

Salary: €1,–€1, per week gross (USD per week estimate available upon request)

Eligibility: Candidates currently based in South Africa, ideally Cape Town, with a right to work locally

Key Responsibilities
  • Offer attentive and compassionate care, creating a safe, calm environment for the child.
  • Plan and lead age‑appropriate activities (arts and crafts, early science, reading, outdoor play) to support physical, emotional, and intellectual development.
  • Maintain consistent daily routines: meals, naps, playtime, and simple learning moments.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and organisation in the child's areas and belongings.
  • Maintain a balanced yet clear approach to boundaries, grounded in kindness and respect.
  • Assist mother and child with appointments, activities, and outings as needed.
  • Offer short‑term sole charge with confidence and sound judgement.
  • Accompany the family on local outings and short trips as required.
  • Communicate discreetly and professionally; safeguard the family's privacy at all times.
  • Collaborate closely with the mother and resident nanny to ensure a consistent, joined‑up approach.
Essential Qualifications
  • Extensive experience as a nanny in private families; excellent references.
  • Recognised childcare training or education (e.g., early years, Montessori, or equivalent).
  • Calm, gentle temperament; patient, observant, and responsive to a young child's needs.
  • Gentle, respectful approach to discipline based on clear, kind boundaries.
  • Exceptionally organised; takes pride in maintaining tidy, well‑ordered children's spaces.
  • Reliable and flexible work ethic; comfortable adjusting to family schedules and needs.
  • Lawfully based in South Africa (ideally Cape Town) with the right to work locally.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
Desirable Qualities
  • Knowledge of developmental milestones and creative, play‑based learning.
  • Experience supporting healthy sleep routines.
  • Capable of preparing simple, healthy meals and snacks for children.
  • Confident swimmer.
