Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a capable Software Engineer in Cape Town to drive end-to-end development for our web platform. You will design and implement frontend and backend features, focusing on robust APIs, database efficiency, and secure, scalable architectures.

You will collaborate with Product Owners and QA in an Agile environment, delivering high-quality code and well-documented solutions. A Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of hands-on experience are expected.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of hands-on software engineering experience building and maintaining web applications.
• Proficiency with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks and HTML5/CSS3.
• Experience with backend technologies and building scalable RESTful/GraphQL APIs.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases; familiarity with cloud environments and containerization.
• Strong understanding of web security, performance optimization, and scalable architectures.
• Excellent communication and collaboration in an Agile environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy responsive frontends and robust backends.
• Build and maintain reliable APIs for core platform and integrations.
• Optimize database models, queries, and data integrity across databases.
• Ensure code quality with reviews, tests, and documentation.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and QA in an Agile/Scrum setup.
• Monitor performance, address technical debt, and apply security best practices.
