Job summary

Opensource is seeking a skilled software engineer in Gauteng to design, develop, and maintain enterprise microservices and cloud-native solutions. You will work across full stack, from Angular front-ends to Java back-ends, building scalable systems and improving API design.

You will participate in architecture reviews, code quality initiatives, automated testing, and CI/CD processes while mentoring peers and collaborating with Product Owners and Tech Leaders in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native microservices architectures and distributed systems.
• Hands-on testing experience with modern frontend/backend testing tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise applications and microservices
• Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into robust solutions
• Develop cloud-native, scalable, and resilient software solutions
• Participate in architecture discussions and solution design reviews
• Conduct code reviews to ensure quality, maintainability, and adherence to engineering standards
• Create and execute automated tests and resolve defects efficiently
• Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment activities
• Investigate and provide third-level production support when required
• Produce technical and system documentation aligned with ISO standards
• Present technical solutions to Product Owners, System Owners, and Technical Leaders
• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
• Coach, mentor, and support fellow developers and users

Essential Skills

• Strong experience with Angular 18+, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and responsive web design principles.
• Proficiency in Java 21+, Quarkus 3+, Maven, JUnit, and Mockito.
• Experience working with Kafka and MongoDB (NoSQL) databases.
• Strong understanding of Microservice Architecture, including designing and implementing distributed, scalable applications.
• Proven experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS Cloud services.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD practices, deployment automation, and modern DevOps methodologies.
• Experience with Git, version control best practices, and collaborative Git workflows.
• Front-end and end-to-end testing experience using Jest and Playwright
