Job summary

Sasolburg, Free State-based maintenance leadership role at Sasol requires frontline supervision of diesel workshop teams, ensuring safe, reliable operation of critical equipment. You will plan, assign tasks, monitor maintenance, and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality and cost control.

Applicants should hold Grade 12/NQF4, a recognized Diesel Mechanic Trade Test, and relevant certifications. Five plus years of experience in diesel workshop environments are expected.

  • Recognised Diesel Mechanic Trade Test.
  • Flameproof and 8 gasses certifications required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all diesel workshop activities.
  • Allocate work to Diesel Artisans, Mechanics and Assistants.
  • Ensure planned maintenance is completed on schedule.
  • Manage breakdown response and prioritise critical equipment.
  • Coach and develop junior employees and assistants.
  • Monitor equipment availability and downtime.

Purpose of Job

Accountable for first line leadership and management of team members to enable the work of self and team members and building their expertise and skills, and deliver frontline team results such as Safety, Production, Maintenance, Quality, Cost and Motivation.

Key Accountabilities
  • - Supervise and coordinate all diesel workshop activities.
  • - Allocate work to Diesel Artisans, Mechanics and Assistants.
  • - Ensure planned maintenance is completed according to schedule.
  • - Manage breakdown response and prioritise critical equipment.
  • - Ensure equipment is repaired correctly and returned to service safely.
  • - Monitor equipment availability, reliability and downtime.
  • - Inspect completed work and ensure acceptable workmanship.
  • - Ensure job cards, inspection reports and maintenance records are completed accurately.
  • - Identify recurring equipment failures and initiate corrective actions.
  • - Coordinate major component changes and rebuilds.
  • - Ensure correct tools, spares and materials are available for planned work.
  • - Control workshop housekeeping and equipment condition.
  • - Ensure employees follow mine safety standards and safe work procedures.
  • - Conduct toolbox talks and communicate daily work priorities.
  • - Coach and develop junior employees and Assistants.
  • - Monitor employee performance and address poor workmanship or unsafe behaviour.
  • - Liaise with Engineering management, Production and other departments.
  • - Assist with investigations into equipment failures and incidents.
  • - Monitor workshop costs and responsible use of parts and materials.
  • - Ensure compliance with OEM specifications, mine standards and legal requirements.
Formal Education
  • - Grade 12 / NQF Level 4.
  • - Recognised Diesel Mechanic Trade Test .
  • - Flameproof and 8 gasses (Must)
Working Experience
  • - Experience: 5+ relevant years
