Well established FMCG food production concern are recruiting an experienced Food Safety Officer based in Cato Ridge. We are looking for a candidate who aligns with strong business values and will contribute to a culture where honesty, integrity, and customer expectations truly matter.
The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of wheat-based products by conducting inspections, enforcing food safety regulations, investigating complaints, and training staff on best practices. This role includes assessing potential hazards, monitoring hygiene standards, and taking corrective action to prevent contamination or foodborne risks. The FSO will play a key role in maintaining compliance with legal and industry requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Food Safety
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of suppliers to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety standards
- Enforce relevant local, national, and international food safety laws and standards
- Investigate incidents, customer complaints, or outbreaks, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
- Develop, implement, and maintain food safety systems such as HACCP, GMP, and related quality assurance programs
- Ensure compliance with Food Safety Certifications and successfully pass annual external audits
- Conduct sampling and testing of product and water for microbiological and chemical analysis
- Deliver training and education to staff on food handling, hygiene, and updated legislation
- Maintain accurate documentation, incident reports, and corrective actions
- Conduct risk assessments to identify hazards and preventative measures
- Lead Food Safety meetings and monitor non-conformance reports
Quality
- Schedule and analyse laboratory testing
- Provide feedback on analysis results to senior management
- Approve and maintain Certificates of Analysis
- Create SOPs for laboratory equipment and schedule external equipment verification
- Interpret quality parameters related to flour and understand the impact on baking performance
Cleaning & Hygiene
- Work closely with departments to ensure cleaning standards meet food safety requirements
- Monitor outsourced cleaning and pest control services
- Ensure safe work practices and PPE compliance
- Monitor personal hygiene of staff and manage weekly laundry services
Risk & Quality Control
- Conduct internal audits and monthly GMP audits
- Evaluate and update product specifications
- Maintain and improve risk assessments and control procedures
