Qualifications

• Meets job requirements with basic measurement, preparation, and installation of flooring materials.
• Grade 12/Matric preferred; trade qualification is a plus.
• Experience with diverse flooring types and installation methods is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Measure floor areas and estimate material requirements.
• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, leveling, and removing old flooring as needed.
• Install flooring materials including vinyl, laminate, carpet tiles, hardwood, rubber, ceramic, and other coverings.
• Cut and fit materials around edges and fixtures to exact specifications.
• Apply adhesives and underlays per product specs.
• Repair, replace and maintain existing flooring installations.
• Inspect completed work for quality and customer satisfaction.
• Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe, clean condition.
• Follow all workplace health and safety regulations.
• Communicate progress and requirements with clients, supervisors and team members.

Job Summary

The Floor Fitter is responsible for measuring, preparing, and installing various types of flooring materials in residential, commercial, and industrial properties. The role requires attention to detail, technical skill, and the ability to deliver high-quality workmanship while adhering to health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Measure floor areas and estimate material requirements.

• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, leveling, and removing old flooring where necessary.

• Install various flooring materials including:

  • Vinyl flooring

  • Laminate flooring

  • Carpet tiles

  • Hardwood flooring

  • Rubber flooring

  • Ceramic and other specialist floor coverings

• Cut and fit flooring materials accurately around edges, corners, fixtures, and fittings.

• Apply adhesives, underlays, and finishing materials according to specifications.

• Repair, replace, and maintain existing flooring installations.

• Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards and customer satisfaction.

• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and clean condition.

• Follow all workplace health and safety regulations.

• Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and team members regarding project progress and requirements.

Education

• Grade 12 / Matric preferred.

• Relevant trade qualification or flooring installation certification advantageous.

Experience

• Minimum 2 years' experience in flooring installation or a related construction role.

• Experience working with a range of flooring materials and installation methods.
