Job description

Pick-Nik Marketing (Pty) Ltd manufactures, markets and sells tissue and hygiene products through Retail and Business to Business channels in South Africa and neighboring countries. Its Head Office and operational factories are in Gauteng, Kempton Park.

We are seeking the services of a highly capable Fleet Controller.

The incumbent is responsible for the daily coordination, monitoring, and management of a company’s vehicle fleet. This role ensures that vehicles are properly maintained, drivers comply with regulations and schedules, and transport operations are carried out efficiently and cost-effectively.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Distribution / Logistics Manager. The incumbent must : manage and oversee the operations of a fleet of vehicles, ensuring they are used efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively. This role is critical in logistics, transportation, delivery services, and other industries that rely on vehicle fleets.

Responsibilities
  • Schedule, dispatch, and monitor fleet movements to ensure timely deliveries and collections.
  • Track vehicles using GPS and telematics systems to monitor routes, driver behaviour, fuel consumption, and delivery status.
  • Communicate with drivers throughout their shifts to handle delays, route changes, or issues.
  • Acts as a central point of communication between drivers, management, and clients
  • Ensure drivers adhere to legal and safety standards, including hours of service, road safety rules, and internal policies.
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and coordinate service, repairs, and licensing to ensure roadworthiness and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records of fleet performance, incidents, fuel usage, and maintenance.
  • Handle breakdowns, accidents, and emergencies promptly and effectively.
  • Report on fleet performance, costs, downtime, and recommend improvements to optimize efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Support recruitment, training, and performance management of drivers as needed.
  • Ensure all transport documentation is complete and compliant with company and legal standards.
  • Office-based with frequent communication with drivers on the road.
  • Perform any other duties as require by the operations.
QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • A relevant qualification in Logistics, Transport Management, or a related field (advantageous).
  • Minimum 2–4 years' experience in a fleet control, dispatch, or logistics operations role.
  • Knowledge of fleet management systems and vehicle tracking technology.
  • Sound understanding of transport legislation, safety standards, and operational procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, especially Excel and fleet systems).

  • Internal : Sales and Operations Managers, Converting Management Team, Safety and Risk Personnel (SHEQ), Admin and Financial Departments, Human Resources, Buying and Training Departments.
