Job summary

A South African technology company is seeking an experienced Fleet Controller to manage fleet operations and maintenance at their Stikland Depot. Responsibilities include ensuring safe and efficient vehicle deployment, regulatory compliance, and budget management. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Logistics and at least 2 years of experience in fleet management or logistics roles. This position is fixed term for 12 months, requiring in-person presence.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Fleet Controller or in a similar logistics/transportation role.
• Minimum of 2 years in a logistics, supply chain, or operations role.

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Fleet Controller to oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of our vehicle fleet. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient deployment of vehicles, cost‑effective maintenance schedules, regulatory compliance, and the overall safety and performance of the fleet.

Key Responsibilities

• Fleet Operations, Coordination and Monitoring – Oversee day‑to‑day fleet operations, scheduling, dispatching, routing and driver assignments; ensure optimal vehicle utilization and cost‑efficiency; maintain accurate records of fleet activities.
• Vehicle Maintenance – Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules; coordinate vehicle repairs and servicing; monitor spare parts inventory and repair costs.
• Compliance and Safety – Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory transportation requirements; monitor driver safety behaviour using fleet tracking software; conduct regular vehicle inspections and ensure proper licensing and insurance.
• Procurement and Budgeting – Manage vehicle procurement, leasing and disposal processes; monitor and control fleet‑related budgets; negotiate with vendors for vehicle purchases and services; support accident/incident reporting and investigations.
• Data Management, Fleet Administration and Reporting – Utilize fleet management software to track vehicle performance, fuel efficiency and driver behaviour; generate and present reports on fleet status, cost analysis and performance metrics; maintain accurate fleet records; support cost control measures and identify operational efficiencies.
• Logistics – Monitor and coordinate logistics operations including transportation, warehousing, inventory control and distribution; liaise with suppliers and transport companies; maintain accurate inventory records; analyze logistics data and provide reports; support budgeting and forecasting for logistics‑related expenses.

Qualifications

• Matric or NQF equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance, fleet software and GPS tracking systems.
• Understanding of regulatory requirements related to commercial vehicle operations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fleet management software.
• Proven experience as a Fleet Controller or in a similar logistics/transportation role.
• Minimum of 2 years in a logistics, supply chain or operations role.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive.
