Job Description
  • Effective construction support.
  • Ensure a high standard of safety in section.
  • Operate all mechanical equipment required by the construction assistant role.
  • Ensure that mechanical equipment is in good running order.
  • Make sure that the construction area is safe, support early entry and exit inspections, bar face and install temporary support.
  • Execute construction activities as per instruction.
  • Clean construction area, including winch and scraper set.
  • Install equipment and support in area, including preparation of material and making safe equipment for next blast.
  • Report on abnormal activities to Construction Operator.
  • Assist during breakdowns or emergencies.
  • Assist team members with task execution.
  • Ensure that cleaning activities enable the construction operators to fulfil their tasks.
  • Ensure that logistics can deliver material and clean box holes safely and effectively.
  • Support team members in the panels and logistics team if they require help.
  • Help Logistics servicemen to maintain equipment.
  • Effective two‑way communication with team members.
  • Support the measurement of construction activities.
  • Support the Construction Operator in identifying material requirements.
  • Participating in required meetings including safety meetings.
  • Accurately complete role administration requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operations or construction initiatives.
  • Participation in improvement projects.
  • Support efforts to overcome construction problems.
  • Identify safety and construction risks and threats to the process proactively.

This role is at a Band 9 level reporting to the Team Supervisor.

Qualifications
  • Grade 12
  • Passed Construction Assistant specific training module
Experience, Technical Knowledge Skills
  • Previous experience in UG mining environment
  • Construction Assistant specific training.
  • Tool and equipment operation: Proficiency with a variety of hand tools and the ability to operate and control machinery and heavy equipment is key.
  • Basic math and literacy: Strong skills are needed for measuring, calculating materials, and following instructions.
  • Attention to detail: Crucial for performing tasks correctly and ensuring quality work and safety.
  • Manual dexterity: The ability to work well with your hands and perform fine motor tasks.
  • Safety knowledge: Understanding public safety, security, and site‑specific safety regulations.
