Job summary

A leading food manufacturer based in Pretoria is looking for a Fitter and Turner to perform routine preventive maintenance on machinery. Candidates should possess an N3 Mechanical Engineering qualification and be qualified Fitters/Turners. The role includes inspecting equipment, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and mentoring apprentices. Previous FMCG experience is a plus. This is a permanent position with shift work involved.

Qualifications

• Knowledge in cutting, compressors, conveyor belts, and Milling machinery.
• Report writing and analysis.
• Mentoring apprentices.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on machines.
• Inspect drives, motors, belts, bearings, and replace filters.
• Comply with Food safety standards.
• Assemble, install, and repair plumbing and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements.
• Diagnose and correct mechanical problems.
• Direct and train workers on equipment maintenance.
• Record maintenance and repair work.
• Clean and lubricate machinery parts.
• Work shifts and be available on call.

Job Description

RCL Foods is seeking a Fitter and Turner to join our Milling Division based in Pretoria West. The purpose: the role is to perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of the machines do not deteriorate.

Minimum Requirements

• N3 Mechanical Engineering plus qualified Fitter/Turner
• Knowledge in welding, cutting, compressors, conveyor belts and Milling machinery.
• Knowledge to manufacture spare parts on Lathe and Milling machine.
• Ability to communicate on all levels.
• Ability to work systematically.
• Ability to prioritize work load.
• Report writing and analysis.
• Mentoring apprentices.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of the machines do not deteriorate.
• Inspect drives, motors, belts, bearings, replace filters and perform other maintenance actions following checklists.
• Be able to comply with Food safety standards, and previous FMCG experience will be an advantage.
• Assemble, install and/or repair pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment on steam and waterlines.
• Ensure that your department complies with all Health and Safety requirements.
• Diagnose and correct mechanical problems.
• Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions.
• Direct and train workers to install, maintain, mechanical equipment.
• Record maintenance and repair work performed.
• Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
• Must be able to work shifts and be available on call-outs and standby.
