Job summary

Sleep Group seeks a skilled Maintenance Fitter to install, maintain and repair industrial machinery across our Johannesburg facilities. The role requires reading blueprints, executing precise maintenance plans and coordinating with suppliers for parts and contractors.

You will work in a high-temp, high-humidity plant environment, weekends and night shifts included, ensuring equipment safety and uptime. Training will emphasize CMMS Maintain X usage and preventive maintenance practices.

Qualifications

• NQF5 or Equivalent Qualification and Trade Test (Fitter)
• Proficiency with multiple manufacturers’ automation hardware and software
• Experience in a manufacturing environment (non-negotiable)
• Ability to work in a plant environment for extended periods (high temperature/high humidity environment)
• Ability to work weekends and public holidays, nightshift and be on standby

Responsibilities

• Assist the Maintenance Manager in the maintenance of specialized machines
• Work in a team and ensuring the complete functioning of all machinery
• Proficiency with multiple manufacturers’ automation hardware and software
• Strong knowledge mechanical manufacturing processes
• Assisting with accurate bill of materials
• Ensure suppliers compliances to high standard of parts needed
• Get necessary quotes for spare parts or contractors as per drawings
• Maintain and test all equipment / machinery to ensure functionality, safety and availability to complete work within the specified timeframe and budgetary limits
• Identify and implement permanent solutions to reduce excessive downtime
• Perform Condition Based Maintenance on equipment
• Inform the Manager of any defects, spare parts and time needed to complete the work
• Ensure equipment is tested for functionality and safety before returning to production
• Assemble parts and machines per drawings
• To work on maintenance software CMMS Maintain X
• Testing all relevant machine parts before final assembling
• Stock take review to ensure right components and quantities are available
• Check maintenance/manufacturing stock usages
• Improve up-time by analysing breakdowns
• Daily Preventative Maintenance planning on all machines
• Replace worn and damaged parts on equipment
• On call and standby for major and minor equipment failures
• Schedule machine maintenance
• Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly equipment inspections
• Checking and noting all plant and building equipment for wear or damage
• Fabrication and installation of equipment and safety guards
• Call outside contractors for unscheduled maintenance
• General housekeeping and ensuring OHS Act compliance

Job description

The purpose of this role is to set up machinery based on highly technical instructions and blueprints. Occasionally move machines to different locations as per operations’ requirements, as well as making sure that all machines operate properly and our facilities always remain safe. The successful Incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the use of specialized tools to build and repair machines as well as being responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial machinery and equipment.

• Stound experience in technical trade or as a post trade Fitter
• Experience in the manufacturing environment (non-negotiable)

Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain and test all equipment / machinery to ensure functionality, safety and availability to complete work within the specified timeframe and budgetary limits
• Ensure that components causing excessive downtime are identified and permanent solutions are found and implemented
• Perform Condition Based Maintenance on equipment
• Inform the Manager of any additional defects as well as spare parts and time needed to complete the work
• Ensure that all equipment is maintained through utilising the right tools, work instruments and within safety regulations
• Be responsible for ensuring equipment/machinery is tested for functionality and safety before being returned to production
