Job summary

Edge Executive Search Group is assisting a forward-thinking financial services company seeking a seasoned Legal Risk & Compliance Advisor to support sustainable growth with expert legal guidance. You will draft, review, and negotiate major agreements, advise on new products and channels to ensure compliance, and identify contractual, regulatory and data‑privacy risks.

You will monitor legislation and develop controls and policies to strengthen governance.

Qualifications

• LLB or equivalent recognised qualification at NQF Level 8.
• 5 to 8 years of relevant legal experience in banking or financial services.
• Strong drafting, assessment, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to various business units and management.
• Draft, review, and negotiate key agreements with customers, merchants, suppliers, and partners.
• Advise on new products, services, technologies and channels to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
• Identify and manage contractual, regulatory, liability, data protection, IP, and operational risks.
• Oversee contract lifecycle management from initiation to renewal or termination.
• Support due diligence on partnerships, acquisitions, and strategic investments.
• Monitor and interpret legislation, industry rules, and regulatory directives and translate into controls and policies.
• Develop and maintain compliance frameworks; conduct ongoing monitoring and reviews.
• Support compliance activities including customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, and data privacy.
• Maintain risk registers, monitor mitigation strategies, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Prepare legal opinions, advisory memoranda, and governance documentation.
• Liaise with regulators, external legal advisors, auditors, and industry bodies.
• Foster strong relationships across all relevant business functions.
