Red Cap Energy (Pty) Ltd in Cape Town seeks a Financial Manager to lead monthly and annual reporting, consolidation across the group and SPVs, and the audit cycle. The role offers ownership of internal controls, cash flow management, and the development of the finance team, with AI-driven workflows embedded in core processes.
We require a CA(SA) or CIMA with hands-on accounting experience, plus strong Excel skills and experience with cloud accounting (Xero).
Red Cap Energy has been developing wind projects in South Africa since 2009 and is 100 percent South African owned. Kouga, Gibson Bay and the Impofu wind farms are operational and put over 500 MW onto the national grid, and we built the transmission lines needed to unlock them. The pipeline runs to over 3.8 GW across development stages, and the business is now moving from developing wind farms to owning and operating them.
This is a new position in a small finance team. You would start with support while you learn the business and the portfolio, and take on the function progressively, with a path to the full Financial Manager title and, in time, exposure to the commercial and project finance side of the business.
What you will do
The core of the role is monthly and annual reporting and consolidation across the corporate entity and the project SPVs, the audit and tax cycle, internal controls and financial policy, group and project cash flow, the weekly payment run, and the development of the finance team and its systems.
In the first year we would expect the monthly cycle to transfer to you and to run on a tighter timetable than the one you inherited, a rolling group cash flow forecast reliable enough to be used for decisions, a full year end and audit with you as the principal owner, and at least one AI-enabled workflow in production and in use by someone other than you.
As the portfolio moves towards financial close, the scope widens into commercial and project finance work.
What we are looking for
AI fluency is the defining requirement of this role and it is weighted accordingly in the selection process. We are looking for someone who already works with AI as a matter of course. That means daily use in real finance work beyond drafting correspondence, and views on the tools formed by using several and setting some aside. It means building rather than only prompting: reconciliations, variance commentary, payables workflows, data cleanups, review checklists, first draft schedules. Anything done twice is a candidate for automation. It also means judgement about where AI does not belong, how output is verified before it reaches a number that gets signed, and how company and counterparty information is handled. You would be expected to bring the rest of the finance team up to the same standard, with our support and budget, and to work within Red Cap's acceptable use and data handling requirements for AI tools and contribute to strengthening them. The company is actively developing this area and the incumbent is expected to have a view on it.
Beyond that we are looking for five things. A CA(SA), or a qualified accountant such as CIMA with equivalent hands on experience, plus post qualification time in a financial accounting or management role. Experience preparing consolidated annual financial statements and carrying an audit as the principal point of contact. Current, demonstrable AI fluency in your own work. Hands on experience of a cloud accounting system, with advanced Excel. We use Xero and may move to a more sophisticated platform as the portfolio grows. A record of improving a function, with the before and the after.
Exposure to SPVs, project finance or infrastructure is useful. So is IFRS for SMEs alongside full IFRS across a mixed group, experience migrating or optimising an accounting system, a renewables or construction background, and supervising junior staff. None of these is a requirement and their absence will not count against a strong application. Any year count in this advert is a guide and never a filter.
The role is based in Cape Town, office based or hybrid by arrangement, and we would consider Gqeberha for the right person. It is permanent and full time. Remuneration is market related and negotiable.
Applications close on Tuesday 17 November 2026.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked for one example of something they have done with AI in their finance work, covering the problem, what was built, which tools were used, what it does now that it did not do before, roughly what it saved, and one place where they chose not to rely on it. Work belonging to a previous employer should be described rather than sent.
Our process is a short screening call, a practical exercise drawn from the portfolio, then conversations with senior finance leadership. We will come back to you either way, and we will move quickly. We have no objection to AI-assisted applications, provided the submission speaks to this role specifically.
How we work
We are a small and deeply experienced team that runs on an idea we call Pilot in Command. If you have the information and the judgement, you make the call, and we back you for it. The finance team is small, so the role carries real ownership from the start.
