Job summary

Momentum Metropolitan seeks a statutory accounting professional to lead and support the statutory accounting team, ensuring accurate financial reporting for several entities within Momentum Investments. The role partners with the business and maintains internal controls.

The ideal candidate holds a BCom/BCom Honours in accounting or CA (SA), with experience in financial services and strong process discipline.

Qualifications

  • BCom/BCom Honours Accounting degree with 3-5 years relevant experience or CA with 2-3years post articles experience (desirable).
  • AGA(SA) designation holder or eligible for registration with SAICA.
  • Preference for financial services industry experience.
  • Understanding of internal finance processes and controls.
  • Knowledge of relevant financial transacting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct all general accounting duties in line with accounting principles and within agreed timeframe, including creditor payment process, process and upload journals with agreed timeframes, month end accounting process, VAT reconciliations and VAT returns.
  • Contain costs within budget parameters and ensure implementation of appropriate financial controls.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for optimisation, within area of responsibility.
  • Contribute to monthly reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts, in preparation for financial reporting.
  • Compare expenses to budgets and identify reasons for variances, in order to provide financial insights in reporting.
  • Assist with compiling reports and analysing variances, by providing accurate financial information.
  • Assist in identify and reconciling discrepancies and problems in reports, to contribute to accurate financial reporting that creates business value.
  • Contribute to the audit process and resolve any audit queries within set deadlines.
  • Review monthly journals and ensure ad hoc invoices are captured timeously and accurately on the payments system.
  • Execute the financial aspects of contracts and verify that all financial commitments listed in agreement are met based on terms written in contract.
  • Investigate and resolve any financial queries.
  • Provide insight and analysis to users of financial information by providing commentary thereon, including any trend analysis.

Role Purpose

Responsible for performing and controlling general accounting duties, in support of the overall finance operations and to manage risk and ensure accuracy of financial information. The purpose of this role is to lead and support the statutory accounting team with the enhancement and oversight of the finance function for a several statutory entities within Momentum Investments. The role will entail a statutory, reporting and financial control components which will include the day to day running of the accounting function and providing finance support to the business (as a business partner).
