Overview
A leading group is seeking a Financial Accountant to join its Retail Division with retail or supermarket experience. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of one of South Africa’s largest independent automotive groups. They are looking for a detail-oriented, analytical accountant who thrives in a fast-paced, retail-driven environment and enjoys being hands-on within the financial operations of a busy dealership network.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, maintain, and review monthly financial accounts.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance in general ledger entries, balance sheets, and P&L statements.
- Oversee and manage accounts payable, receivable, and WIP (Work in Progress).
- Perform bank reconciliations and review daily cash flow activities.
- Prepare and submit VAT calculations and returns accurately and on time.
- Support and liaise with auditors during financial reviews and annual audits.
- Assist in the implementation and monitoring of internal controls and process improvements.
- Analyse financial performance, identify variances, and provide insight to management.
- Collaborate with the operational team to resolve finance-related queries.
- Contribute to ad-hoc projects and ensure compliance with group policies.
Requirements
- Accounting qualification (minimum Diploma; Degree or Professional Certification advantageous).
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a Financial Accountant, preferably within the retail or supermarket sector.
- Strong working knowledge of Sage, Pastel, CDK/Autoline/Kerridge, or similar accounting systems (highly recommended).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong analytical capability.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work closely with senior management.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet month-end deadlines.
- A proactive, detail-driven approach with strong problem-solving abilities.
