Job summary

A leading recruitment agency seeks a Financial Accountant in Durban. The role involves preparing financial reports, managing entries, and ensuring compliance with IFRS and VAT. Ideal candidates should have a B. Com Accounting or related qualification, with 4-6 years of experience in insurance or financial services. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

  • Completed Articles required.
  • Minimum of 4 to 6 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in Insurance or Financial services is key.
  • Thorough understanding of IFRS, VAT and Income Tax.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts in compliance with Group reporting timelines.
  • Prepare monthly petty cash, bank and GL reconciliations.
  • Prepare commentary on the financial results.
  • Reconcile intercompany balances and prepare confirmations.
  • Compile documentation for audits.
  • Support the implementation of internal controls.
  • Assist in the implementation of the ERP system.

  • B. Com Accounting or related qualification

Experience and Knowledge required
  • Minimum of 4 to 6 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in Insurance or Financial services is key.
  • Thorough understanding of IFRS, VAT and Income Tax

Key Performance Areas:
  • Process accounting entries and prepare monthly management accounts in compliance with Group reporting timelines.
  • Prepare monthly petty cash, bank and GL reconciliations.
  • Prepare commentary on the financial results to provide insights to Management.
  • Reconcile intercompany balances and prepare related confirmations.
  • Compile supporting documentation and schedules required for external and internal audits.
  • Support the implementation of internal controls, report financial discrepancies and errors.
  • Assist in the implementation of the ERP system.
