Old Mutual Life Assurance Company (SA) Ltd is seeking a Chartered Accountant with 2-5 years post article experience to support the Shareholder Finance team in Wealth Life. The role focuses on delivering financial, management and regulatory reporting, and driving automation and process improvements.

You will work with stakeholders across policyholder accounting, investments, tax and enablement teams, ensuring strong internal controls and timely reporting.

Qualifications

  • Chartered Accountant with 2-5 years post articles experience.
  • Experience in financial services.
  • Experience with IFRS 9 and IFRS 17 advantageous.
  • HFM experience desirable.
  • Strong Excel skills with aptitude to learn IT applications.
  • Power BI or similar tools experience preferred.
  • Experience using Oracle.
  • Experience in product accounting advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Five Fund Tax calculations.
  • Proactive, data-driven approach with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Meticulous with accuracy and compliance.
  • Strong team player who fosters a cooperative work environment.
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring timeous and accurate delivery of financial, management and regulatory reporting.
  • Prepare management reporting with commentary on financial results.
  • Drive automation of reporting and processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and control.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls through reconciliations and controls reviews.
  • Generate BAU and ad hoc internal management reports for stakeholders.
  • Participate in internal and external audit cycles.
  • Contribute to business plan preparation and communication with the business.
  • Provide detailed analysis against the business plan to insight performance.
  • Prepare tax (ABU) calculations and analyse movements in tax funds.
  • Evaluate finance processes and drive optimisation within the team.
  • Guide and support junior team members in reporting.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business on reporting and project objectives.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects within the finance team.
  • Monitor, analyse and report cash forecasts and movements.
  • Prepare statutory submissions.
  • Investigate and communicate outcomes to resolve errors.

Job Description

This role will report to and work closely with the Senior Financial Accountant of the Shareholder Finance team in Wealth Life as well as various stakeholders of the shareholder team including the policyholder accounting team, investments team, tax team and enablement teams. This role combines both operational and reporting responsibilities while also managing governance and compliance at an operational level. This position is individually accountable for achieving results through self and others.

Key responsibilities
  • Ensuring the timeous and accurate delivery of key financial reporting, management reporting and regulatory reporting deadlines which include but are not limited to Oracle, HFM, regulatory and KPI reporting.
  • Prepares management reporting and provides commentary on financial results and implications (financial reporting and management reporting).
  • Demonstrates commitment to implementing new technologies and automation of reporting and processes.
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement, constructively challenge existing processes and ways of working and propose practical solutions to improve efficiency, quality and control.
  • Ensuring and developing a strong internal control environment through maintenance and continuous improvement of the controls process. This includes the preparation and review of reconciliations and all other types of controls.
  • Generating BAU and ad hoc internal management reports for key stakeholders
  • Participating in internal and external audit cycles
  • Participates in the preparation the business plan and assists in communication with the business on key areas of delivery and change.
  • Prepares detailed analysis against the business plan to provide insight into the entity’s performance.
  • Prepare tax (ABU) calculations and analyse movements in tax funds.
  • Continuous evaluation of finance processes and driving process optimisation within the team
  • Providing guidance, support and oversight to junior team members, where applicable, to support accurate and timely reporting and effective operational delivery.
  • Working together with key stakeholders across the business in achieve financial/actuarial/management reporting, financial control, and project objectives.
  • Providing input into ad hoc projects, directly within the business or the broader segment finance team
  • Monitoring, analysis and reporting of cash using forecasts and analysis
  • Preparation of statutory submission.
  • Ability to investigate, analyse and communicate outcome of this work for the resolving of errors.
Qualifications and Experience required
  • Chartered Accountant (2-5 years relevant post article experience)
  • Previous financial services experience
  • Previous experience with IFRS 9 and IFRS 17 advantageous.
  • HFM experience is desirable.
  • Strong Excel skills with an aptitude and eagerness to learn various IT applications and platforms to enable process efficiencies.
  • PowerBi (or similar tools) experience preferred.
  • Experience using Oracle
  • Experience in product accounting advantageous
  • Familiarity with Five Fund Tax calculations
  • Proactive, data-driven approach with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Meticulous with a strong focus on accuracy and compliance.
