Finance Manager - Qualified (CA)SA (Pinelands, Cape Town)

The Finance department of Intelligent Debt Management (IDM), a Financial Services group based in Cape Town, seeks a qualified CA to join the Finance team.

The role of the successful candidate will be the Head of Finance and will report directly to the CFO. The candidate must be highly efficient, energetic, motivated, ambitious and willing to learn, as well as being prepared to make a commitment to the business in the medium to long term.

As the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of our organisation. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our financial strategy, managing financial operations, and providing leadership to the finance team. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of financial management within the financial services sector, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to make data-driven decisions that drive our business forward.

Key Responsibilities
  • Working closely with the CFO and Exco team to help drive the growth of the company by implementing financial strategies and aligning the finance team to assist in the support of the growth of IDM.
  • Collaborating with the forecasting and analysis team to assist the CFO and Head of Commercial in leading the budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis processes.
  • Assist the Group FM with monitoring financial performance against budgets and forecasts, identifying variances and proposing corrective actions as needed.
  • Manage cash flow and liquidity to ensure the company's financial obligations are met. Optimise working capital to ensure that covenant levels are not breached.
  • Year end audit responsibilities i.e. liaising with auditors and assisting with/review of the preparation of Annual Financial Statements.
  • Advising on appropriate accounting treatment of complex transactions.
  • Review of managements accounts and group consolidation to ensure accurate and timely monthly reporting to the Exco team and IDM Shareholders.
  • Support the CFO, together with the Head of Risk and Internal Audit, with identifying and managing financial risks, including credit risk, market risk, and operational risk. Develop and implement additional risk mitigation controls where necessary.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including department heads and senior executives, to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes.
  • Maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, company secretary, and financial/banking partners.
  • Overview and management of the payroll team.
  • Assist the Group FM with the review of quarterly tax calculations (Income Tax and Deferred Tax).
  • Supporting the CFO with the growth and development of the finance team, as well as ad hoc projects.
