Finance Manager CA(SA) Trade / Imports / Exports / JHB / R1.3m-R1.5m

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Finance Manager to oversee and strengthen the financial operations of our dynamic, multinational business.

This pivotal role will support our diverse trading and investment activities across industrial minerals, chemicals, fertilizers, agricultural commodities, and equipment markets.

Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Finance Manager will be responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust controls, ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions, and providing strategic insights to drive profitability and sustainable growth.

With operations spanning Africa, the Middle East, and Türkiye, and trading activities across the SADC region, this role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-impact environment with international exposure.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Responsible for finance, accounting, compliance activities.

This includes financial results, tax and accounting principal guidance, treasury management and credit management.

This role will also provide guidance, support and assistance to Operations and Trading desk.

Along with supporting the accountants and Operations, the Finance Manager will also be responsible for executing the internal controls framework, managing and relations with banks.

Requirements
  • Chartered Accountant (preferred)
  • Completed Bachelor of Commerce Degree (non-negotiable)
  • Articled – SAIPA / SAICA (non-negotiable)
  • Minimum 5 years in a management role
  • Experience in drafting and preparation of monthly packs using BI Tools
  • Experience in Inventory Management; AR and AP Management
  • Computer literate (Advanced MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • CaseWare experience
  • Accounting systems experience - medium size ERPs e.g. Evolution, Syspro, SAP
  • Experience in manufacturing, freight & logistics, commodities or trading environment advantageous.
Responsibilities

Must be able to take full responsibility of financial reporting.

Take responsibility for implementing flawless and efficient processes, owning and driving key initiatives, developing critical documentation and communications to support ongoing strategic goals.

Direct reporting to the Group CEO and the GM SA for the SA operations.

Budget and forecasting, and preparation of budgets for board purposes.

Cash flow management, forecasting and review reports from divisions.

Oversee finances and ensure all reporting done in line with company policies.

Implementation and standardization of financial controls across all operations and projects.

Responsible for effective internal control procedures.

Responsible for liaising with external auditors and tax advisors.

Assist in IT systems implementation for the company.

Assist the Group CEO with Risk and Governance management.

Liaise closely with all stakeholders to ensure their requirements are understood and met from a finance perspective.

High level operational involvement, supporting Group CEO, VP and GM SA in driving profitability and cost cutting initiatives.

Act as the Public Officer for SA companies

Support and drive the business' core values and strategy.

Tracking Trader daily activities.

High level operational involvement to establish trading rules and incentive schemes for traders.

Support and drive the business' core values and strategy especially in relation to trading and commodity trading.

Monthly Deliverables

Ensuring and reviewing that the following are processed by the team on a daily basis :

  • Redeem maturing FEC transactions.
  • Update cashflow with customer remittances / FEC maturities.
  • Update hedging schedule with new / maturing transactions
  • Hedge warehouse sales transactions (via ABSA dealing desk), manage R value sales to customers in line with hedging and gross margin policies.
  • Follow up on customer payments (per due date).
  • Liaise with Turkey Finance and Operations team for hedging sales transactions where needed.
Weekly Deliverables
  • Review GP and tonnage reports.
  • Review cashflow reports.
  • Issue debtor payment reminders for hedged transactions.
Annually
  • Plan and co-ordinate stock count at warehouse(s) as per stock count policy, to be developed and presented to GM for signoff.
  • Plan and co-ordinate year-end financial audit.
  • Preparation of AFS (CaseWare).
  • Preparation of audit files for review at year end.
  • Preparation and submission of tax returns and VAT submission for all operations.
  • Be the liaison and resolve tax matters between the company and SARS (Large Business Centre).
  • Co-ordinate the tax audit as part of the year-end process.
Banking
  • Monitor and manage banking expenses including bank charges, commitment fees, facility fees.
  • Monitor and ensure best possible rates are received from banks.
  • Manage operational banking administration (signatories and accounts).
  • Ensure effective cash management and cash flow management within treasury function.
  • Establish and manage relationships with all major banks.
  • Gain a clear understanding of capital requirements of the business in order to facilitate growth, raising capital to this extent, and manage and negotiate between banks to achieve the best rates.
  • Monitor and update guarantee facilities with banks.
  • Negotiate for optimal terms with respect to guarantees required for business growth.
  • Support and drive acquisition opportunities : Develop, maintain a strong network and relationships with Finance and investment institutions with the aim at exploring investment opportunities, determining viability and presenting suitable options to stakeholders.
  • Explore growth opportunities and cost saving initiatives to support the business growth with commercial investment houses and government investment institutions.
  • Capital raising towards investments and acquisitions
  • In time, explore growth opportunities in the international finance space.
Risk Management and compliance
  • Establishing and ensuring the trading desk is adhering to policies and the monitoring thereof.
  • Manage rules to prevent insider trading.
  • Ensuring compliance with laws and regulations
  • Making sure we work in accordance with POPI Act.
  • Ensure comprehensive credit management and that trading risk and cash losses are mitigated.
  • Ensure the Company assets and business is adequately covered through insurance policies.
