Job description
Finance Manager (US GAAP | Client-Facing)
Overview

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Finance Manager to oversee and coordinate client accounting engagements, including accounting clean-ups and ongoing monthly financial reporting. This role is ideal for a CA(SA) / CPA / equivalent professional who is technically strong, confident engaging with clients, and able to review and guide accounting teams to deliver high-quality US GAAP–compliant financial outputs.

The Finance Manager will work closely with Client Accounting Managers, acting as a senior reviewer and strategic partner to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery across multiple client engagements. This role is firmly finance-focused rather than tax-oriented.

Key Responsibilities

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as a primary client-facing finance lead, providing confidence, clarity, and professional guidance to US-based and international clients.

  • Lead client finance discussions, including onboarding, clean-up planning, monthly close reviews, and financial performance discussions.

  • Translate financial information into meaningful insights for non-finance stakeholders.

Oversight & Review

  • Oversee and review accounting clean-ups and ongoing monthly engagements performed by Client Accounting Managers and accounting teams.

  • Ensure financial records and reporting are accurate, complete, and compliant with US GAAP.

  • Review balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and supporting schedules.

  • Identify and resolve complex accounting issues and provide clear direction to accounting teams.

Financial Reporting & Close

  • Oversee month-end close processes across multiple clients.

  • Review monthly management accounts, variance analyses, and supporting reconciliations.

  • Ensure consistent accounting policies and documentation across engagements.

Quality Control & Process Improvement

  • Act as a quality control point before financials are shared with clients.

  • Drive process improvements, standardisation, and best practices across accounting engagements.

  • Support system implementations, transitions, and clean-ups across accounting platforms.

Systems & Platforms

  • Work across multiple accounting systems including QuickBooks (Online & Desktop), NetSuite, Xero, and Sage.

  • Review system configurations, chart of accounts structures, and reporting frameworks.

  • Support integration and optimisation of accounting tools where required.

Qualifications & Experience
  • CA(SA), CPA, or equivalent professional qualification (strongly preferred).

  • 5–10+ years experience in financial accounting, audit, or advisory roles.

  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP.

  • Proven experience reviewing and overseeing accounting work rather than only preparing it.

  • Client-facing experience with the ability to confidently lead finance conversations.

  • Experience across multiple industries is advantageous.

  • Prior experience in audit, outsourced accounting, or advisory environments is a strong plus.

Technical Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of financial statements and balance sheet integrity.

  • Strong review and problem-solving skills.

  • High proficiency in QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, and/or Sage.

  • Excellent Excel and reporting skills.

Soft Skills & Attributes
  • Confident, professional, and client-oriented communicator.

  • Strong leadership and mentoring capability.

  • High attention to detail with a commercial mindset.

  • Ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.

  • Proactive, solutions-driven, and calm under pressure.

What Success Looks Like
  • Clean, accurate, and US GAAP–compliant financials delivered on time.

  • Strong, trusted relationships with clients and internal accounting teams.

  • Accounting teams are supported, guided, and held to high standards.

  • Clients feel confident in their numbers and decision-making.
