Job description

Our client, a leader in their field (based in Millerton, Cape Town), is looking for a Financial Manager to join their team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall financial management and reporting of the Group, actively contributing to strategic growth. You will be responsible for ensuring financial control of commercial operations, supporting decision-making through financial analysis, and driving performance across all business functions.

You will partner closely with senior management to align financial strategies with operational goals, risk management, and long-term sustainability.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Financial Leadership: Developing and implementing financial strategies to support business growth; leading budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning processes; conducting risk analysis and providing recommendations to mitigate financial exposure; providing insights for capital investment, pricing decisions, and potential acquisitions/disposals; monitoring profitability, cost control, and operational efficiency across all business units.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance: Preparing and reviewing monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness; ensuring all balance sheet reconciliations are completed and reviewed monthly; assisting with year‑end financial statements and audit preparations; ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory financial requirements (tax, reporting standards); providing clear financial insights and guidance to management and the Board.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partnering with Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, and other key departments to drive financial performance; resolving finance‑related queries from internal and external stakeholders; supporting decision‑making by interpreting financial information for non‑financial managers.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Leading, mentoring and developing the finance team to build high performance and accountability; managing performance, coaching, succession planning, and career development for all direct reports; fostering a culture of continuous improvement, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Technical and Systems Management: Managing financial systems and reporting tools; ensuring accurate financial analysis using advanced Excel and BI tools; overseeing taxation reporting, and franchisee invoicing (where applicable).
Requirements
  • CA (SA) 5‑7 years experience in a Financial Manager role.
  • Retail, FMCG or related commercial industry experience.
  • Strong financial expertise in accounting, budgeting, reporting, treasury, cash flow, and taxation.
  • Ability to develop and implement robust financial frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Skilled in financial analysis, forecasting, and problem‑solving.
  • Proficient in financial systems and advanced Microsoft Excel (SAGE, Qlik, BI tools advantageous).
