Job summary

A financial services firm in Johannesburg is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant focused on reporting and compliance. The successful candidate will prepare monthly financial reports, manage bonds and VAT submissions, and oversee a team. At least 5 years of accounting experience and a CA(SA) qualification are required. Proficiency in MS Office and advanced Excel skills are essential.   • Review VAT submissions for compliance and accuracy.
  • Reconcile the Finance Fixed Asset Register with the GCAD department FAR.

Requirements

CA(SA)

1 year of post-articles experience or prior commercial experience outside of audit.

Experience in managing or supervising a team will be an advantage.

At least 5 years' experience in an accounting role.

Language skills : Portuguese speaking (advantageous).

International experience : Cross-border / international exposure in the Middle East and Africa (advantageous).

Proficient in MS Office and databases and advanced Excel skills.

Buildsmart experience is advantageous – data input and review.

Deadline-driven with ability to prioritize tasks.

Strong administrative skills.

Awareness of competency-based assessment and training.

Instructional design awareness.

Excellent presentation and oral communication skills.

Effective negotiation and persuasion skills.

Key Responsibilities
Monthly reporting

Prepare individual trial balances and monthly financial reports in collaboration with the Head of Financial Reporting and Compliance.

Annual Financial Statements (AFS)

Prepare statements across all entities, including group consolidation, supporting documentation and audit trails.

Financial analysis

Compile overhead and sector reports, conduct preliminary variance analysis and raise queries where necessary.

Bonding and guarantees

Manage administration, monthly updates and acquisition of new bonds / guarantees as needed.

VAT

Review for accuracy and compliance, ensure timely submission and reporting.

Balance sheet reconciliations

Review for statutory compliance and monitor outstanding items to ensure timely resolution.

Photocopier management

Oversee group-wide photocopier-related finance matters.

Asset management

Reconcile the Finance Fixed Asset Register (FAR) with the GCAD department FAR.

Support new jurisdiction setups

Assist with BuildSmart, banking, accounting and policy alignment to ensure compliance.

Payment oversight

Review and release all South African and international payments.

Project list maintenance

Ensure accurate records of active and closed projects, including supporting documentation.

BuildSmart entries

Review "Direct" entries prepared by the creditors team.

Rental agreements

Review and approve agreements prior to sign-off.

Credit applications

Review and approve applications prior to sign-off.

Team oversight

Review and approve work submitted by team members.

Perform other ad-hoc duties as required by the role.
