Job summary

A leading technical services provider in South Africa seeks a skilled technician with a Trade Test and/or Technical Qualification (NQF 5) in Earthmoving or Electrical. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 5 years experience in troubleshooting and resolving electrical and mechanical issues. Responsibilities include diagnosing faults using specialized tools, repairing equipment, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The role requires travel to various sites, often in challenging conditions and at unusual hours, alongside maintaining physical fitness.

Qualifications

  • Trade Test and/or Technical Qualification (NQF 5) in Earthmoving/Electrical.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience with troubleshooting electrical/mechanical problems.

Responsibilities

  • Detect mechanical and electrical faults using specialized tooling.
  • Repair and maintain components and equipment.
  • Follow work assignments as per instructions.
  • Determine repair extent and nature.
  • Perform regular checks and services on equipment.
  • Repair and replace parts as necessary.
  • Improvise solutions when needed.
  • Travel to remote sites and work unusual hours.
  • Work with specialized equipment.
  • Maintain physical fitness and a legal driver's license.
  • Adhere to health and safety legislation.
  • Assist with spare parts identification.
  • Support other divisions as required.

Qualifications
  • Specify: Trade Test and/or Technical Qualification (NQF 5), Preferably The Company factory training. (Earthmoving / Electrical Trade)

Years of Experience (more important than the initial educational level):

  • Minimum 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with regards to troubleshooting and problem solving electrical and mechanical problems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Detects mechanical and electrical faults by using specialized tooling and equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains components and equipment.
  • Follows work assignments received in the form of general oral or written work instructions.
  • Determines the extent of the needed repair and determines the nature thereof.
  • Performs checks and services on a regular basis and detects possible faults and flaws on affected equipment.
  • Repairs and/or replaces and fits new sections or new parts.
  • Improvises necessary solutions as and when needed.
  • Travels from one site to another, often in remote areas and at unusual work hours.
  • Works with specialized equipment in order to perform daily duty requirements.
  • Maintains a good level of physical health and fitness.
  • Maintains a legal vehicle drivers license at all times.
  • Adheres to all health and safety legislation.
  • Assists spare parts with part identification.
  • Assists and supports the other Company divisions if and where required.
