Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Field Service Technician to join our client’s team in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. This on-site role covers installation, maintenance, repair, and service of specialized industrial equipment at customer sites, with travel within the region.

You will diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, perform preventive maintenance, provide basic training, keep accurate service records, and ensure safety policies are followed.

Qualifications

• Technical qualification or apprenticeship in mechanical/electrical engineering.
• 2+ years' field service or hands-on technical experience.
• Ability to read manuals, schematics and blueprints.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel within Nelspruit/Mpumalanga region.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Install and commission on-site new equipment.

About the Role

Our client, a growing provider of specialized industrial equipment, is seeking a dedicated Field Service Technician to join their operations team serving clients in the Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, ZA region. This role involves the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of our client's equipment at customer sites. You will be the frontline technical expert, ensuring that customer machinery operates efficiently and reliably, thereby contributing to customer satisfaction and the company's reputation. This is an on-site role requiring travel within the specified geographic area.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform on-site installation and commissioning of new equipment.


• Conduct routine preventive maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance.


• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on various types of machinery.


• Execute repairs and replace faulty components, ensuring quality workmanship.


• Respond to emergency service calls and resolve technical issues promptly.


• Provide technical support and basic training to customers on equipment operation and maintenance.


• Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and inventory of parts and tools.


• Communicate effectively with customers, reporting on service activities and findings.


• Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures while on customer premises.

Requirements

• Technical qualification or apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related trade.


• Proven experience (2+ years) as a Field Service Technician or in a similar hands‑on technical role.


• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.


• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.


• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.


• Excellent customer service and communication skills.


• Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule effectively.


• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are mandatory.


• Willingness to travel regularly within the Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, ZA region.
