Farm Manager job vacancy in Stellenbosch.

Our client is looking to hire a Farm Manager for a small boutique vineyard in the Drakenstein Valley area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day operations:
    • Manage daily vineyard tasks such as pruning, canopy management, irrigation, and harvesting.
    • Monitor and implement pest, disease, and weed control strategies.
    • Oversee soil health, erosion control, and the installation and maintenance of trellising and irrigation systems.
    • Ensure all equipment is in good working condition and all necessary tools and supplies are on hand.
    • Make sure the farm is fire season ready with equipment and tools and staff schedules
  • Staff and personnel management:
    • Train, supervise, and evaluate farm staff and contractors.
    • Manage staffing requirements
    • Ensure all jobs are performed safely and correctly, and enforce company policies.
    • Handle administrative tasks like record-keeping, including staff hours, irrigation, and chemical applications.
  • Quality, sustainability, and strategic planning:
    • Work with the winemaking team to ensure vineyard practices support wine quality goals.
    • Monitor vineyard performance through data collection and analysis to make adjustments.
    • Develop and implement conservation and sustainability strategies.
    • Create and manage budgets for vineyard operations.
  • Other duties:
    • Comply with all statutory regulations.
    • Manage potable water, irrigation water and scheme water
    • Maintain farm infrastructure including vehicle and machine servicing, pump maintenance, spray cart calibration, and ensure the property is presentable and gardens well maintained
    • Conduct administrative tasks, including preparing reports and managing supplies.
