Job summary

Department of Agriculture, Western Cape Government is seeking a Farm Support Officer to assist with crop production, livestock care and general infrastructure maintenance across farms in the Western Cape. The role requires an Abet level 2 or equivalent and involves some driving and operating basic equipment on site.

You will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure the smooth running of farm operations, with responsibilities spanning irrigation, soil prep, animal care and facility

• Knowledge of farm infrastructure construction and maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Irrigate crops and soil cultivation/preparation.
• Care for sick livestock and vaccinations/dosing.
• Maintain and build roads, fences, pipelines, canals, dams, drinking troughs, animal housing and buildings.
• Maintain windmills and water supply systems.
• Clean facilities and manage farm waste.

Salary: R144024 - R169 656 per annum (Level 02)

Duties

Perform general activities in respect of crop production: Irrigation of crops; Soil cultivation and preparation (cleaning and hoeing); Perform general activities in
respect of livestock: Care for sick livestock, Dipping, vaccination and dosing; Perform general activities: Cleaning of facilities; disposal of farm waste
material; Perform general activities in respect of infrastructure: Maintain and build roads, fences, pipelines, canals, dams, drinking troughs, animal housing
and buildings; Maintain windmills and water supply system.
