Job summary

A food manufacturing company in Mpumalanga is looking for a Quality Assurance Manager. The role involves managing the site's quality assurance system, training employees on food safety, and overseeing quality control processes. Candidates should have a degree in Food Science and at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a nut production environment. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 with a tertiary qualification in Food Science and at least 5 years' relevant experience.
  • Experience in a nut production environment is an advantage.
  • Training and certification in IBL, FSSC, Food Defence & Food Fraud preferred.

Job description

The main responsibility of this position is to manage and maintain the site's quality assurance system, ensuring food safety, product compliance, and continuous improvement through effective control of processes, audits, training, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Investigate and trend customer complaints to identify root causes and corrective actions.

Provide continuous training to employees and promote a strong food safety culture.

Oversee and process all quality control (QC) checks.

Manage and control incidents, accidents, and spillages within the area of responsibility.

Monitor and maintain CCP and OPRP controls.

Assist with external and internal audits (FSSC IBL, SEDEX).

Collect and manage retention samples.

Conduct foreign object, cleaning, and integrity checks, and ensure effective allergen and PRP management.

Oversee pest control and chemical management programs.

Support internal audits, non‑conformance management, and root‑cause analyses.

Manage plant‑specific projects and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Coordinate equipment calibration and maintain calibration schedules.

Assist in reviewing and updating product and process specifications.

Perform ad hoc tasks as required by the line manager.

Requirements

Grade 12 with a tertiary qualification in Food Science with at least 5 years' relevant experience.

Previous experience in a nut production environment will be a distinct advantage.

Computer literate (MS Office, ERP, and quality management system).

Training and certification/accreditation requirements: IBL, FSSC; Food Defence & Food Fraud will be an advantage.

Good interpersonal skills, high energy, self‑motivated, self‑driven, problem‑solving ability.

Proactive and strong attention to detail.

Good organizational skills with the ability to manage document flow, control processes, and provide strong organisational skills.
