Facilities Manager
The Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing and strategically managing the school's physical infrastructure, operations, and non‑academic support staff. This includes the effective supervision of maintenance and support teams, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards, managing budgets, leading estate development projects, and ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day functioning of all operational aspects of the school. The role supports the educational mission of the school by maintaining an environment that is safe, well‑maintained, efficient, and conducive to learning.
Strategic Estate & Facility Management: Develop and implement the school's long‑term estate strategy. Plan, oversee, and manage renovations, upgrades, and capital projects. Maintain the integrity, functionality, and presentation of school buildings and grounds. Liaise with architects, engineers, and contractors for ongoing or new projects.
Operational Leadership & Task Management: Oversee all non‑academic support functions including maintenance, transport, site security, cleaning, and event support. Prioritise and delegate daily maintenance requests and preventative maintenance schedules. Coordinate logistics for school events, transport, and external lettings.
Health, Safety & Compliance: Lead on all estate‑related health and safety matters, including fire safety, security, and risk management. Ensure all statutory inspections, safety checks, and contractor compliance records are current and meet regulatory standards. Maintain the school's risk register and oversee disaster and continuity planning.
Maintenance & Technical Oversight: Lead troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical, mechanical, or infrastructural issues. Supervise repairs, utility management, and mechanical systems across the estate. Maintain compliance with electrical, plumbing, and asbestos regulations.
Leadership & Team Development: Lead and motivate a multidisciplinary maintenance and operations team. Provide training, performance evaluation, and staff development. Maintain high standards of professionalism and customer service among all operational staff.
Budgeting & Inventory Control: Manage the estates and operations budgets, ensuring cost‑efficiency and value for money. Track and report on maintenance expenditure vs. forecast. Manage procurement and stock control of tools, parts, and consumables.
Communication & Availability: Act as the primary point of contact for operational matters with internal and external stakeholders. Be available for out‑of‑hours emergencies and provide leadership in crisis situations.
Technical Expertise in building maintenance, compliance, and infrastructure. Strategic Planning & Project Management. Health & Safety & Risk Management. Budgeting & Financial Acumen. Excellent Communication & Interpersonal Skills. Problem‑Solving & Decision‑Making Ability. High Level of Organisation and Prioritisation.
National Senior Certificate (NSC).
Project Management certification (advantageous).
Minimum of 5 years' experience in facilities / building maintenance with supervisory responsibilities.
Proven experience managing teams, budgets, and compliance.
