Our client, a leader in the mining and explosives industry, is seeking a skilledExternal Marketing & Communications Specialistto join their Marketing & Communications team.Purpose of the Role : Lead the design, support, and execution of external communication strategies, marketing campaigns, and brand initiatives to enhance visibility, engagement, and market positioning.
Responsibilities
- Implement the unit operations plan by understanding key activities and performance measures, communicating with stakeholders, and monitoring daily execution.
- Report on performance by tracking progress against targets, identifying concerns, and submitting clear, timely reports quarterly and as needed.

- Follow established processes correctly and address issues or concerns as they arise.
- Support the external communication strategy by engaging stakeholders, ensuring consistent messaging, aligning with organisational goals and industry trends, and reviewing the strategy periodically.
- Draft and release clear, timely external communication messages that ensure message clarity, alignment, and impact.
- Execute content creation for social media, websites, and digital platforms to drive visibility and engagement.
- Arrange external business events, conferences, and sponsorship activities by coordinating with stakeholders, directing planning and logistics, and ensuring alignment with strategic priorities.
- Ensure consistent implementation of the corporate identity by supporting brand guidelines, overseeing branded collateral production, and maintaining brand consistency across materials.
- Apply a strategic mindset to position the brand competitively within the market.
- Assist with advertising activities, including setting objectives, identifying target audiences, selecting platforms, booking placements, developing content, and monitoring performance.
- Coordinate and execute external marketing campaigns across digital and traditional channels, including social media, PR, trade shows, print, and other marketing initiatives.
- Monitor and report on campaign performance and ROI, providing insights and recommendations for optimisation.
- Liaise with external partners, marketing agencies, media partners, and consultants to execute campaigns, and coordinate with industry associations, government, and clients for joint initiatives.
- Oversee sponsorships for product divisions by identifying event objectives, allocating budgets, negotiating sponsorships, ensuring effective activation, and evaluating results against performance metrics.
- Utilise digital marketing tools, analytics platforms, and AI-driven solutions to enhance targeting, personalisation, and campaign impact.
- Leverage data analytics for brand monitoring and insights-driven decision-making.
- Explore and implement innovative technologies to improve marketing efficiency and the overall customer experience.
- Assist in defining departmental budgets, implement and manage expenditure, approve spending in line with financial policies, and conduct monthly reviews.
- Monitor actual expenditure by analysing financial reports, identifying anomalies or areas of concern, and executing timely corrective actions.
- Maintain ongoing SHE compliance by reviewing current practices, identifying deviations, and correcting them within established timelines.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders through regular communication, feedback exchange, and collaboration support.
- Manage service provider performance by tracking service level agreements, monitoring delivery against standards, identifying issues, and applying corrective actions as necessary.
- Actively contribute to the team by participating in team events, providing support where needed, and being an engaged, dependable team member.
- Contribute to the sustainability strategy of the department, ensuring operations are aligned with sustainability principles and minimise environmental impact.
Qualifications
- Matric / Grade 12; BCom / BA in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or similar.
- Postgraduate diploma in Business Management or similar (advantageous).
- 5+ years' experience in marketing and communication.
- Experience with SAP, MS Office, basic graphic design, and analytical tools.
- Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, social media management tools).
- Experience with AI-driven and digital marketing tools and automation platforms.
- Knowledge of the mining or industrial sector.
- Proven track record in B2B marketing and stakeholder communications.
- Driver's license.
