Job summary

Eaton is seeking a General Manager to lead its Electrical business in South Africa. The role holds overall strategic, commercial, and operational leadership for the South Africa P&L, targeting growth, profitability, margin, and market share.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Business or Engineering (MBA advantageous).

About the Organisation

The Role

This is a senior executive position reporting directly to the Chairman, with full P&L accountability for the Construction & Heavy Industry division. The General Manager will be responsible for the strategic direction, operational excellence, and overall commercial performance of the division across multiple African markets. Based in Ghana with travel across project sites as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across business units, including civil works, mechanical & electrical, plant operations, and equipment management
• Take full ownership of P&L, driving revenue growth, margin optimisation, and cost control
• Lead delivery of complex, multi-country projects, ensuring execution on time, on budget, and to the highest quality and HSE standards
• Build, develop, and retain a high-performing leadership team
• Drive business development activities, including securing new projects, partnerships, and contracts
• Represent the organisation at senior level with governments, development finance institutions, joint venture partners, and key clients

Candidate Profile

• Senior experience in construction, civil engineering, or heavy industry, including time served as a General Manager or executive level
• Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (MBA is an advantage)
• Proven track record of P&L ownership and delivery of strong financial performance in complex environments
• Experience operating across multiple African markets, with a strong understanding of local commercial and regulatory environments
• Ability to manage integrated operations, including civil infrastructure, industrial plant, and heavy equipment
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage at senior government and institutional level

The General Manager - South Africa provides overall strategic, commercial and operational leadership for Eaton's Electrical business in South Africa. The role is accountable for the South Africa P&L and for achieving agreed business targets for sales growth, profitability, margin, cost and market share. The General Manager develops and executes the country strategy in alignment with Eaton Electrical, Emerging Markets and EMEA priorities, translating market data, customer needs, competitive dynamics and regulatory developments into clear strategic and operational plans.

The General Manager leads the country organization through Eaton's matrix environment, ensuring effective collaboration across Sales, Services and associated support functions. The role builds strong customer and market relationships, strengthens organizational and commercial capability, develops a high-performing leadership team and drives the transformation required to position the South Africa business for sustainable future growth.

The role requires a leader who can balance profitable growth with price pressure and changing market conditions; lead through continuous change and ambiguity; leverage digital, AI and commercial insights; and create an operating culture characterized by accountability, customer focus, collaboration and execution excellence.

• 15 years of progressive business and commercial experience, with a minimum of 7 years' experience in sales and leadership roles and a proven track record of achieving business success as a commercial sales leader.
• A solid background in the Data Centre and Buildings and construction segments, with demonstrated success in complex, project - led environments is preferred.
• Solid experience in the electrical industry or sector.
