Job summary

Placements24 in Mossel Bay is seeking an AI Ethics & Governance Specialist to build and enforce responsible AI policies. You will partner with R&D, legal, and compliance to assess risks, craft guidelines, and promote fairness, transparency, and accountability across AI projects.

The role requires a 3+ year track record in AI ethics or governance, strong regulatory understanding, and excellent communication. A hybrid work model offers flexibility within South Africa.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Philosophy, Law, Computer Science, Data Science, Ethics, or a related interdisciplinary field.
• 3+ years of experience in AI ethics, technology governance, or responsible AI.
• Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts and their societal implications.
• Knowledge of GDPR, POPIA or related data privacy regulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement AI ethics and governance frameworks and policies.
• Conduct ethical risk assessments for AI projects and systems.
• Advise product development and engineering teams on ethical considerations throughout the AI lifecycle.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards related to AI and data privacy.
• Develop training programs and educational materials on AI ethics for internal stakeholders.
• Monitor evolving AI ethics research, regulations, and best practices globally.
• Collaborate with external stakeholders including academics, policymakers, and industry groups.
