Job summary

A leading environmental services provider in Gauteng seeks an Environmental Officer to develop and implement environmental policies and manage compliance with South African environmental legislation. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree and experience in water and wastewater treatment, along with strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • 3 years varied experience in water and wastewater treatment environment.
  • Knowledge in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Water Use Licence Application (WULA).
  • Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation.

Job description
Responsibilities

The incumbent will provide professional environmental services as required within ERWAT and external businesses by the Commercial Department.

Key Performance Areas: Develop and review environmental policies ensuring alignment with relevant regulatory framework. Oversee the implementation of ISO

  • Environmental Management System.
Monitor the environmental performance of the company on the set management systems, produce data and report on the company's performance against the set standards. Implement project site environmental management and monitoring programme, during decommissioning and site handover to contractors, construction, commissioning, and site handover back to operations. Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects meet regulatory, environmental, health and safety requirements Environmental Impact Assessment Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Water Use Licence Application (WULA etc.).

Regularly engage with Department of Water and Sanitation, as well as Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Department of Environmental Affairs (EIA, WULA, etc.) on compliance issues.

Qualifications

Requirements: Bachelor's Degree / BTech / BSc / NQF Level 7 or higher in Environmental Science, / Environmental Management or related environmental qualification. 3 years varied experience in water and wastewater treatment environment, including knowledge in EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment), WUL (Water Use License Application) applications and amendments. Environmental compliance and audits, and knowledge on ISO standards. Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation. Excellent reporting, analytical, and communication skills. Computer literacy (MS Office, data analysis tools).
