Job description

The Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary, registered by SANC, will be responsible for direct and / or indirect nursing care of a resident or group of residents and will function under the
direct and / or indirect supervision of the Professional Nurse? Maintain professional conduct and standards at all times in accordance with Facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors.
  • Ability to implement and maintain standards of health practice required from all accreditation bodies and applicable nursing and health legislation.
  • Practice the principles of infection prevention and all standard precautions.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs – implement and maintain hygiene, physical comfort and reassurance of patients.
  • Perform any reasonable task as per request of a superior.
  • Participate in the Facility quality improvement program. Promote and maintain physical comfort, rest, sleep, exercise and reassurance of a resident.
  • Coordinate and supervise patient care under the direct supervision of a Professional Nurse.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of disease entities.
  • Take the blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration of a resident.
  • Attend handover of report from the Shift Leader.
  • Refer any queries to the sister‑in‑charge.
  • Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico‑legal hazards.
  • Adhere to the facility's medical waste management principle and all other waste management principles.
  • Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Report potential / actual risks identified.
  • Ensure all stock is well controlled and managed.
  • Responsible for ensuring correct use, cleaning and storage of equipment.
  • Report equipment needing repair or replacement to sister‑in‑charge.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric and general resident population.
  • Demonstrate ability to assist with feeding residents and maintain fluid balance with technique appropriate for residents' age and physical condition.
