A leading mining company in South Africa is seeking an Engineering Shaft Maintenance Planner. The successful candidate will develop, coordinate, and monitor maintenance and project plans for shaft engineering operations. Candidates must have a Grade 12 / N3 Certificate, a Trade Test, and at least 3–5 years of experience in the mining industry. Proficiency in maintenance planning systems like SAP is crucial.

Job description

To develop, coordinate, and monitor maintenance and project plans for shaft engineering operations, ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective functioning of shaft infrastructure, equipment, and systems in line with legal, company, and operational requirements.

  • Develop, update, and optimize maintenance and project schedules for shaft engineering activities.
  • Coordinate planned maintenance of winder systems, shaft infrastructure, conveyances, pumping systems, and shaft services.
  • Ensure compliance with OEM specifications, company standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Liaise with engineering, production, and supply chain teams to align resources and materials with planned work.
  • Monitor the execution of work against schedules and adjust plans where required.
  • Identify critical spares, track availability, and raise requisitions for procurement.
  • Maintain accurate records of shaft engineering equipment history and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in root cause analysis of breakdowns and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Support asset management strategies to extend equipment life and improve shaft reliability.
  • Compile weekly, monthly, and shutdown plans and report on maintenance performance.
  • Provide technical input to improve planning systems, processes, and engineering standards.

  • At least 3–5 years’ experience in shaft engineering/maintenance planning in the mining industry.
  • Proficiency in maintenance planning systems (e.g., SAP, Pragma, or Maximo).
  • Strong knowledge of shaft system, winders, and underground mining equipment
  • Strong understanding of MHSA, shaft safety standards and other relevant legislation.
  • Excellent understanding of mainteance principiles (Preventive, Predictive, Condition - Based).
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organizational skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Good communication, coordination abilities and teamwork skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Safety- and cost-conscious mindset.
  • Be able to draft reports and presentation on power point.
