Sales Representative (Engineering)
Purpose: To sell engineering/technical products or services to businesses, maintain & grow client relationships, achieve sales targets, and act as a technical advisor/consultant in the sales process.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new leads and business opportunities in relevant sectors (e.g. mining, manufacturing, infrastructure, HVAC, industrial automation).
- Meet or exceed sales quotas (volume, revenue, profit margins).
- Maintain relationships with existing customers; ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business.
- Understand technical specifications of products and services; be able to present, demonstrate, and explain technical advantages.
- Provide cost‑benefit or ROI analyses for clients.
- Prepare and deliver quotations; negotiate terms with clients.
- Coordinate with internal departments (engineering, production, R&D, logistics) to ensure product/service delivery meets client requirements.
- Monitor market and competitor activity; feed information back to marketing/management to adjust strategy.
- Attend trade shows, exhibitions, client site visits as needed.
- Ensure proper sales administration: updating CRM, tracking orders, managing follow‑ups.
- Sometimes provide after‑sales support or liaise for installation, servicing, maintenance.
Qualifications & Skills
- Technical background: diploma or degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial etc.) or strong technical knowledge relevant to the products.
- Sales / business development experience, ideally in technical or engineering contexts.
- Strong communication, negotiation, presentation skills.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and translate them into business/client benefits.
- Good interpersonal skills; ability to build trust with clients.
- Valid driver’s license often required; willingness to travel.
- Computer literacy: spreadsheets, e‑mailing, presentations, CRM tools.
Work Conditions
- Often working in both inside and outside sales: client visits, site visits.
- Target‑driven; may involve pressure to meet monthly/quarterly goals.
- May require travel, even remote field work.
