Minimum requirements for the role
- A BEng or BSc mechanical engineering or similar technical qualification is essential for this role.
- Previous experience working within an engineering company either with mechanical or structural design is preferred.
- Previous experience working in a senior design or engineering lead is essential.
- Proven experience in comminution equipment design (e.g., jaw crushers, cone crushers, sag / ball mills, HPGRS) is preferred.
- Previous experience having worked within equipment design, manufacturing, and field / service environments is essential.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, interface with clients, and manage project timelines and costs.
- Proven experience in the mining industry, preferably with crushing, processing, or materials handling equipment is pref.
- Must have a strong technical background with sound engineering principles.
- Must be proficient in CAD Software; experience with 3D modelling and drafting.
- FEA (Finite Element Analysis) experience advantageous.
- Structural design experience beneficial.
- Must be familiar with document and data management systems.
- Must have strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
The successful candidate will be responsible for
- Leading the design and development of all crushing equipment and associated systems to meet customer specifications and operational performance targets.
- Ensuring that all designs are robust, manufacturable, and compliant with both internal quality standards and external regulatory requirements.
- Overseeing the creation of 3d models, detailed engineering drawings, Bills of Material (BOMs), and conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate structural integrity.
- Maintaining compliance with relevant mining, safety, and engineering standards throughout the design lifecycle.
- Managing, mentoring, and developing a high-performing team of mechanical and design engineers, as well as drafters.
- Managing multiple concurrent design projects, from concept development through to final production release, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Translating customer needs and technical requirements into effective engineering solutions that add value and enhance product competitiveness.
- Supporting aftermarket and field service teams by providing expert technical guidance and resolving equipment-related issues in the field.
- Commissioning new equipment to meet the functional specifications and performance benchmarks.
- Ensuring full compliance with all applicable international and local standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g., ISO, ASME, CE, SANS).
